A War and Victory medal issued to 1406 Private Earnest Arnold Williams of the 1st battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Williams of Balsall Heath Road, Birmingham died on April 26th 1915 aged 25 and is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate memorial.
Given the date, unit and location of his memorial – The Menin Gate records names of the fallen with no known graves – it is likely that Williams was killed during the battle for the village of St Julien which was fought between April 24th and May 5th involving units that included the 1st Battalion Royal Warcwickshire Regiment. According to his Medal Index Card he landed in France on 22nd August 1914 and was also entitled to the 1914 Star.
The medals have their original ribbons but the war medal (particularly the reverse) has suffered from some over enthusiastic cleaning in the past leaving it with scratches across its surface.
The Small Print:
All coins, medals and other items I sell are genuine unless I have explicitly described them as otherwise, I have been selling on eBay for over 20 years and I guarantee this forever. If I sell you something as genuine that later turns out to be a forgery I will take the item back and refund you in full including all postage costs. There are a great many groups on social media sites with experienced collectors and dealers posting coins that you can look at which will help you learn to grade coins and offer advice on whether a coin is genuine or not. Don’t get caught out by fake coins. Feel free to copy any of my images to post on groups to get opinions on the actual coins I’m selling.
I’ve made every effort to provide good quality images of the items I sell but, with coins especially, there’s no substitute for having it in hand to examine it under a lens to assess it. If you buy anything from me and are disappointed when you receive it, for any reason, send it back in the same condition as it was received and I will refund you.
