Roman Republic Denarius Q. Sicinius and C. Coponius struck at an eastern mint moving with Pompey in 49BC. NGC graded choice Very Fine, 3/5 strike, 4/5 surfaces. Nicely toned.
A coin from a pivotal point in Rome’s history. With Caesar having crossed the Rubicon and begun his march on Rome and the civil war in January, Pompey and a number of senators left Rome for the east to prepare for a military conflict with Caesar. Q. Sicinius was a moneyer in 49BC and went east with the senators and Pompey. The SC on the reverse indicates this is a special issue authorised by the senate, at least that part of the senate which had left Rome with Pompey. Rome really was divided at this point. The other person named on this issue, C. Coponius was a praetor who also left Rome with Pompey.
Obverse: Diademed head of Apollo right; star below. Q. SICINIVS before, III. VIR behind.
Reverse: Lion’s skin resting on the club of Hercules, PR. S. C. to the left, C. COPONIVS to the right.

If I sell you something as genuine that later turns out to be a forgery I will take the item back and refund you in full including all postage costs. There are a great many groups on social media sites with experienced collectors posting coins that you can look at which will help you learn to grade coins and offer advice on whether a coin is genuine or not. Don’t get caught out by fake coins. Feel free to copy any of my images to post on groups to get opinions on the actual coins I’m selling.
I’ve made every effort to provide good quality images of the items I sell but, with coins especially, there’s no substitute for having it in hand to examine it under a lens to assess it. If you buy anything from me and are disappointed when you receive it, for any reason, send it back in the same condition as it was received and I will refund you.
