Roman Republic denarius L. Marcius Phillippus. Struck at Rome 57/6BC. NGC Graded XF (Extremely Fine) scratches in the obverse field in front of the portrait.
Lucius Marcius Phillippus was moneyer in the year his father, who’s name he shared, was consul. His father married Atia, Octavian’s mother, making them step brothers. He became a consul himself in 38BC and a governor of Hispania. The Marcians claimed decent from the legendary fourth king of Roma Ancus Marcius, hence his depiction of this coin.
