1914-15 Star trio and Military Medal awarded to Sergeant (Bombardier on the star) 6601 Bertie Tarbard. Tarbard was from Brantham in Suffolk where according to the 1911 census he worked as a factory hand at the Xylomite works in the town. He joined the army shortly after the outbreak of war and completed training in time to land in France on 28th July 1915. On 17th December 1917 his award of the Military Medal was announced in the London Gazette.
As with most awards of the MM the citation for his award is not recorded but as the average time from award to Gazette announcement is 3 months it’s a reasonable assumption that it was for bravery in September 1917 when 282nd Brigade RFA were attached to the 51st Highland Division XVIII Corps. Throughout that month 282nd Brigade took part in fighting as part of the 3rd battle of Ypres.
5 copied pages of the war diary for 282nd Brigade (national archives files WO 95/205/7) covering September 1917 are included with the group along with copies of Tarbard’s medal index card, MM index card and the 1911 census. There is also a portrait photograph of Tarbard and a post card photograph of him with a number of other NCOs.
The medals are all correctly named and in good condition with some contact marks/edge knocks and mounted as worn.
The Small Print:
All coins, medals and other items I sell are genuine unless I have explicitly described them as otherwise, I have been selling on eBay for over 20 years and I guarantee this forever. If I sell you something as genuine that later turns out to be a forgery I will take the item back and refund you in full including all postage costs. There are a great many groups on social media sites with experienced collectors and dealers posting coins that you can look at which will help you learn to grade coins and offer advice on whether a coin is genuine or not. Don’t get caught out by fake coins. Feel free to copy any of my images to post on groups to get opinions on the actual coins I’m selling.
I’ve made every effort to provide good quality images of the items I sell but, with coins especially, there’s no substitute for having it in hand to examine it under a lens to assess it. If you buy anything from me and are disappointed when you receive it, for any reason, send it back in the same condition as it was received and I will refund you.
