Roman Republic denarius L Hostilius Saserna struck at Rome 48 BC. According to Sear this type refers to Caesar being forced to organise a siege of Massilia (modern Marseille) on his way to confront the Pompeian forces in Spain. A bankers mark and test scratch on the reverse otherwise a well centred, beautifully toned and attractive coin good Very Fine.
